Postal Vote System

PAS Terengganu has called for the postal vote system to be abolished to create a ‘fairer playing field’. State PAS Commissioner, Datuk Harun Taib said that the Armed Forces should be given a chance to hear out the opposition while the government can reach the postal voters through certain medium. He was commenting on the recent Bagan Pinang by-election.

Datuk, what kind of level playing field you were talking about? Talking about reaching the postal voters? Come-on Datuk! These postal voters are not prisoners. They are free to move in and out of the camp. They are free to go and listen to your ‘ceramah’, nobody will stop them. They can read newspapers, able to have access to your party’s propaganda through your Harakah. So what is the problem?

Abolishing the postal vote system is not a wise move. Turning them into ordinary voters will create havocs and problems. We are not talking about by-election here but on bigger prospective, general election where all the eligible voters will cast their votes on the very same day. Just imagine all Armed Forces personnel, policemen and other government officers, cast their votes on the same day together with other general voters.

The question now is, who in this country to man the security, the police stations, camps and to ensure the smooth running of the election process?
So, your suggestion is totally ridiculous and was intended to benefit your party alone and was made without proper thinking.

Or were you trying to find excuses for your defeat in Bagan Pinang?
